Poker: history

It´s difficult to determine which is the origin of the poker game. Numerous theories exist and the majority of them are totally different. The beginnings of poker are more 1000 years ago.

The mixture of Chinese games finally generated the exciting poker game. There are data of a game practiced by Chinese emperor Mu-tsung with their wife in century X where they mixed aspects of cards games with domino games. In centuries XII and XIII the Egyptians played some type of card game and later, in century XVI, the Persians had great variety of bets games.

Although the poker name seems that comes from a French game of century XVII and XVIII call "Poque" and another German game in the same time, the “Pochen”, both games derive from a Spanish card game practiced a century before these. The game that we spoke is “Primero” and it was the first version of the present poker.

The French colonists at the beginning of century XVIII introduce the “Poque” in the new world when they arrive to Canada. Step by step it´s extended by North America, mainly to the borders of Mississippi.

Later it´s become more popular by all the continent and it´s difficult not to see poker tables in the halls during the time of the “wild west” and during the civil war it´s even practiced by the soldiers.
